RADIO AND TELEVISION OF BOSNIA AND HERZEGOVINA (BHRT)
BHRT - Radio and Television of Bosnia and Herzegovina, locally known as "Radio televizija Bosne i Hercegovine" is state-wide public broadcaster and the active member of the EBU - European Broadcasting Union from Bosnia and Herzegovina. History of electronic media in BiH has started on 10th of April 1945 when Radio Sarajevo broadcasted its first program. The first TV show was broadcasted in 1961. During that period RTV Sarajevo performed on international function through an inter-republic association JRT (Yugoslav Radiotelevision). On October 1991 RTV Sarajevo was transformed into RTV BiH as state enterprise. After the dissolution of Yugoslavia, RTV BiH comes out of the JRT, and from January 1st, 1993 becomes an independent member of the EBU. BHT 1 as a public TV channel, broadcasted 24 hours daily, covers whole of Bosnia and Herzegovina (more than 97% of territory) by terrestrial signal and by satellite network (BHT SAT). Statement by BHRT General Director Nermin Durmo: To the respected audiences of the Radio and Television of Bosnia and Herzegovina, I would like to sincerely thank you for the support you have given us in the past year in trying to prepare programmes you wish to watch. Your suggestions, recommendations and critique have helped us in devising a programme which favours the interest of all citizens of BiH. This is our duty as a Public Broadcasting Service which operates on state level and covers the whole of BiH, and is available to BH citizens all over the world via satellite. Our determination is to inform you truthfully and objectively through radio and television programme (BHR 1 and BHT 1) on the most important events, issues and happenings in the country, region, and the world, and through adequate programmes to represent all the values of BH community and lifestyle regardless of their ethnic, religious or other affiliation. We are determined to maintain this mission regardless of possible different interests. Current financial situation limits us in trying to implement all our plans, but we will continue with our efforts to create better and structurally richer programme. For our citizens abroad we are planning a special programme - BHRT SAT, which will be entirely conceptualised to include the best of BH production. For us it is important to maintain a constant communication with you. Your suggestions, proposals and programme ideas are always welcome.

Coverage and recordings are done in coordination with radio and television programme editors, while production teams of Music Production record and prepare all significant concerts in BiH. Various recordings in studios add to our field of work and ensure long-term sound recordings of recent success of BH music production of all genres. Music Production orchestra participates in many radio and television shows, enriching the music archive with new recordings, and edits – digitalises old recordings. Music Production orchestra also participates in public happenings. Music Archives Music Archives – invaluable cultural treasure of BHRT – dates back to 1946. Among regular activities of the Archives were admitting records donated from personal collections (the only means of recording music at the time), their documentation and editing. Through several decades of collecting works, the main duty of the Archives was preserved – to keep and protect the authentic sound material, which will be put to use by generations to come, as well as to express the need for preserving the rich musical heritage. Today the Archives hold ca. 50.550 records. For the most part those are magnetic tape recordings (28.050), 18.500 long plays, and ca. 4.000 CDs. Especially important for us is the compilation of folklore, and intention to preserve and affirm sevdah as a unique traditional expression in Bosnia and Herzegovina. In this extremely rich archive of different genres, as well as traditional and world music pieces, there are many rare recordings. Recordings from the Archives are primarily used in BHRT radio and television programmes. Through digitalisation and creation of a unique database and networking with radio and television programmes, we will accomplish one of our main goals – to offer a simpler and faster access to our content. Digitalization of MGT tapes is well under way. The Archives, as well as the cultural and national heritage, is invaluable. This is especially significant when taken into consideration that most of the magnetic tape recordings are work of the Music Production of BHRT. |
